Daily closing prices (Vietnam time), in million VND per tael (world gold: USD per ounce). Hover or tap the chart to see each day.

The board above shows the Vietnam gold price today, updated live from the domestic market: SJC gold bars, 9999 plain gold rings, DOJI, Bao Tin Minh Chau, PNJ and 24K and 18K jewellery gold. Each row has the buying price, the selling price and the change against about 24 hours ago; a green ▲ means up and a red ▼ means down. Next to it is the world gold price (XAU/USD) converted into VND per tael, so you can see how far domestic prices sit above the world price.

Below the board is the gold calculator: pick the gold type, choose whether you buy or sell, enter the taels and chi and the total appears at once. The unit price is pre-filled with the latest market price; you can still change it to your local dealer’s price. At the bottom, the gold price chart covers 7 days, 1, 3 and 6 months, 1 year and 2 years.

📊 How are today’s domestic gold prices updated?

The site loads the listed prices of major Vietnamese gold dealers every few dozen minutes, so you never type prices in by hand. The update time and the data source appear in the green status line under the title. If a source does not respond, the tool keeps the latest valid board and says that it could not refresh.

The change is the current price minus the price about 24 hours ago. As a percentage:

% change = (price now − price 24h ago) / price 24h ago × 100%

📈 Reading the gold price chart

The chart plots the closing price of each day. Domestic gold has two lines: red is the selling price (what you pay when you buy) and green is the buying price (what you get when you sell). The gap between them is the buy–sell spread. Pick a time range to see the percentage change and the highest and lowest prices of the period; hover or tap the chart to read each day.

🌍 World gold price and the domestic premium

World gold is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 g). One tael weighs 37.5 g, about 1.2057 ounces. Multiplying by Vietcombank’s USD selling rate gives the world price in VND per tael:

World price in VND = USD/oz × 1.2057 × rate

This figure excludes taxes, making and shipping costs. The amount by which SJC bars exceed it is the domestic premium over world gold; the larger the premium, the bigger the risk when domestic prices move back toward the world price.

One tael of gold split into 10 chi; half a tael equals 5 chi.1 tael (luong) = 10 chi123456789105 chi = 0.5 tael1 chi = 3.75 g · 1 tael = 37.5 gTotal = (L + C/10) × price per tael
Each box is one chi. The five darker boxes are half a tael, so 1 tael 5 chi is 1.5 taels.

⚖️ Vietnamese gold units

UnitEqualsWeight
1 tael (luong, cay)10 chi37.5 g
1 chi10 phan3.75 g
1 phan10 ly0.375 g

“Cay” and “luong” mean the same unit. SJC bars come in 1 tael, 5 chi, 2 chi and 1 chi pieces. 9999 plain rings are 99.99% gold and are usually sold by the chi.

🧮 Gold value formula

Let L be the taels, C the chi and G the price of one tael. Convert everything to taels and multiply by the price:

T = (L + C/10) × G

If the dealer quotes a price per chi (g VND per chi), converting everything to chi is quicker:

T = (10L + C) × g

🔁 Buying price and selling price

Every gold price board has two columns. The selling price is what the dealer charges you when you buy. The buying price is what the dealer pays you when you sell. The selling price is always higher; the gap is what you lose if you buy and sell back straight away:

Buy–sell spread

To make a profit, the future buying price has to rise above the selling price you paid.

💡 Worked examples

Example 1. Buy 2 chi of 9999 plain rings

The dealer’s selling price is 150,000,000 VND per tael, i.e. 15,000,000 VND per chi.

Total 30,000,000 VND

Example 2. Buy 1 tael 5 chi of SJC bars

The selling price is 152,000,000 VND per tael. 1 tael 5 chi is 1.5 taels:

Total 228,000,000 VND

Actual weight: 1.5 × 37.5 = 56.25 grams.

Example 3. Buy and sell back at once

You buy 5 chi when the selling price is 150,000,000 VND per tael and the buying price is 147,000,000 VND per tael. The spread is 3,000,000 VND per tael, so for half a tael:

You lose 1,500,000 VND if you sell back immediately

⚠️ Common mistakes

  1. Writing 1 tael 5 chi as 1.05 taels. 5 chi is 5/10 of a tael, so the right value is 1.5 taels.
  2. Using the buying price when you are the buyer. When you buy, you pay the dealer’s selling price.
  3. Multiplying the tael price by the number of chi. Divide the tael price by 10 first, or convert chi to taels.
  4. Taking 1 chi as 3.5 g. One chi of gold is 3.75 g.

❓ Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the gold price in Vietnam today?

The board at the top shows the latest buying and selling prices of SJC bars, 9999 plain rings, DOJI, PNJ and Bao Tin Minh Chau in VND per tael, with the update time. Prices change several times a day, so check the status line to see when they were loaded.

Is the gold price up or down today?

Each gold type shows ▲ (up) or ▼ (down) with the amount and the percentage change against about 24 hours ago. For longer trends, choose 1 month, 1 year or 2 years on the gold price chart.

Why is gold in Vietnam more expensive than world gold?

The converted world price excludes taxes, making and shipping costs, and the domestic supply of gold bars is limited, so SJC usually trades higher. The world gold card shows the current premium in VND per tael.

How many chi and grams are in one tael of gold?

One tael (luong, cay) equals 10 chi and weighs 37.5 grams. One chi weighs 3.75 grams.

How do I price 1 tael 5 chi of gold?

Write 1 tael 5 chi as 1.5 taels and multiply by the price per tael. At 150,000,000 VND per tael, the total is 225,000,000 VND.

Do I use the buying or the selling price when I buy gold?

When you buy, the dealer is selling, so the selling price applies. When you sell, the dealer is buying, so the buying price applies.

What is the difference between SJC bars and 9999 plain rings?

Both are 99.99% gold. SJC is the national gold bar brand and usually trades at a premium; 9999 plain rings are made by many companies and are often sold by the chi.

Are the prices in the calculator today's prices?

Yes. The unit price is pre-filled from the latest live price board. Dealers' prices differ, so change it to your dealer's listed price when you trade; press "Market price" to restore the automatic price.
