🌍 What is the world gold price?
The world gold price is the price of gold on the international market, quoted as XAU/USD: the number of US dollars for one troy ounce of pure gold. A troy ounce weighs 31.1035 grams, unlike the ordinary ounce (28.35 g) used for food. Prices form continuously across London, New York (COMEX), Shanghai, Zurich and Hong Kong, so there is almost always a fresh quote.
The price shown is the spot price, the price for immediate delivery. COMEX futures usually trade a few dozen dollars above spot because they include the cost of carry until expiry.
🕒 How is the world gold price updated?
The site fetches the spot price every few minutes while the market is open. The update time always appears in the green status line under the title, in Vietnam time (GMT+7). International gold trades from about 5–6 a.m. Monday to 4–5 a.m. Saturday, Vietnam time (shifting by an hour with US daylight saving), with a one-hour break each day. When the market is closed, the tool says so and shows when the next session opens.
📊 Reading the 24-hour change

The trading range is the gap between the 24-hour high and low and shows how volatile the market is. A range above 2% usually comes with big news such as a Fed rate decision or US jobs data. Over the weekend, the figures cover the last 24 trading hours.
🧮 Converting the world gold price to VND

For any weight of m grams, convert to ounces and multiply by the price and the rate:
One chi costs a tenth of a tael. The result is the raw converted price, before import duty, making, shipping and insurance costs.

🇻🇳 Domestic premium over world gold
SJC gold bars usually trade above the converted world price because of taxes, production costs and the limited supply of bars in Vietnam. The “SJC gold bar” card at the top shows the current premium in VND per tael and as a percentage. The larger the premium, the bigger the risk if domestic prices move back toward the world price.
📌 What moves the world gold price
- The US dollar: gold is priced in dollars, so a stronger dollar usually pushes gold down and vice versa.
- Fed interest rates: higher rates raise the opportunity cost of holding gold, which pays no interest.
- Inflation: gold is seen as a store of value when inflation rises.
- Geopolitical risk: wars and financial crises increase safe-haven demand.
- Central banks and ETFs: their large purchases and sales move supply and demand directly.
