Fraction Calculator – Simplify, Add, Subtract, Multiply & Divide
Fraction Calculator – Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide & Simplify a/b
Pick a mode. The tool finds the GCD or LCD, then writes out every step as a formula.
The calculator above simplifies fractions with the greatest common divisor and performs the four basic operations, showing the common denominator and each reduction.
Formulas used
a/b ± c/d = (ad ± bc) / bd
a/b · c/d = ac/bd, a/b ÷ c/d = ad/bc
- Divide the numerator and denominator by their GCD to get the simplest form.
- Use the least common multiple of the denominators to keep numbers small.
- A denominator can never be 0.
Worked example
Add 1/4 and 1/6. The least common denominator is 12:
1/4 + 1/6 = 3/12 + 2/12 = 5/12
Enter the same values in the calculator above to see every step of the solution.
