Exponent & Radical Calculator

Exponent & Radical Calculator a^n

Two modes: evaluate powers with integer or fractional exponents, and simplify radicals by prime factorization.

The calculator above evaluates powers and roots, and simplifies radicals by pulling perfect powers out of the radicand.

Formulas used

aᵐ · aⁿ = aᵐ⁺ⁿ, (aᵐ)ⁿ = aᵐⁿ
a⁻ⁿ = 1/aⁿ, a^(m/n) = ⁿ√(aᵐ)
  • An even root of a negative number is not a real number.
  • Any non-zero number raised to the power 0 equals 1.

Worked example

Simplify √72. Since 72 = 36 · 2:

√72 = √(36·2) = 6√2

Enter the same values in the calculator above to see every step of the solution.
